It was back in March 2011 when I was sat at an SEO conference in london listening to Distilled’s Tom Critchlow speaking about building a network when he asked the entire room how many people have their own network of specialists? He seemed genuinely shocked when nobody raised their hand in response.
One of the key points of advice I took from Tom’s presentation was to build yourself a network.
Its one of the most difficult things for people new to the web design or SEO industry to understand is the power of networking. Both on-line and off-line networking has been a fantastic source of inspiration, information and ultimately clients.

Ahh so, a new year is upon us. For those of us who attended various search marketing conferences last year, I have put together a list of UK SEO Conferences, Social Media Conferences and On-line Marketing Conferences which are happening in the UK this year (mostly London as usual).
I have always found these SEO seminars, SEO Conferences to be amazing value for money, yes the tickets are expensive, but the knowledge you gain from these events is priceless, plus it is a great way to meet other SEO’s and a great opportunity to ask the industry experts your questions.

Hi guys, I have been using Twitter for some time now and thought I would draw up a list of Twitter Tips for people just starting out on Twitter. Whether you are a casual user or a business owner trying to increase his / her followers these tips should help.
So without further a do…
This one has been pretty useful, find people within your industry or share a similar interest who tweet often and are fairly active. These active users will often follow you back, afterall they are doing the same job you are. One of the fastest ways for you to do this would be to search twitter for # tagged keywords, if you sell “blue widgets” perform a search on twitter for “#bluewidgets”. Another way to find users of similar interest would be to use www.followerwonk.com and “search twitter bio’s” for the same keywords.

Some of my readers may be aware that I have strong ties to the Epilepsy community here in the UK. My son Thomas has “Generalised Epilepsy”, he has had since he was just 1 year old. Over the pas 5 years I have been involved in the Epilepsy community in one way or another. In the beginning when I was trying to learn about Tom’s epilepsy I noticed there was very little information on-line about it, other than the “Charities”. The information I was reading was pretty scary, and nothing was written from a “parents viewpoint” which got me thinking about how I could contribute to the community and help support other parents going through what myself and Tom’s mum were.
It was on the way to an SEO conference in London (Distilled’s Link love 2011) with two very good SEO’s who worked with me at Adtrak(@PaulTyler & @BenSpray), when we began discussing what I should do, Ben and Paul suggested I start a blog as it would be the ideal way to get information “out there” and the epilepsy community would be perfect for a blog!! My latest project to go live was the Emcon Industrial Services Ltd – www.emconservices.co.uk.
This website project came from a recommendation, I was asked to produce a website for the company using their colour scheme, logos and branding.
Emcon are an industrial machinery movers and factory relocation specialists. They have been trading since 2001 and have many years of experience in machinery relocations.
The is one of the most important phases in the web design process, this is where I researched the type of work the company did and began collecting ideas for both the design and possible SEO of this project at a later stage.
